There certainly is nothing which will please a child more than a real arm chair built like father’s is built-so strong that he can use it as he sees fit without fear of its breaking. The design shown in the accompanying drawings is simple in line, and very easy for the amateur craftsman to build. If built of quartered oak and given a good fumed oak finish, it will stand all of the knocks which a child is liable to give it and look little worse for the wear. A piece of this size can be fumed in any ordinary box large enough to hold it if pains are taken to paste good heavy wrapping paper over the inside of the box, placing a pint of concentrated ammonia in a shallow pan and putting the cover on tightly for about seventy-two hours.
