A stand and box together, if made and finished well, will make a very nifty and attractive piece of furniture. Before I had cut a piece of material I made a full size drawing of the stand. While working on the drawing a friend came over, sat on a stool by my board and looked over the drawing. I asked him: “How do you like my stand?” He said: “Well, it looks good on paper, but I’d make the legs straight-Mission style; those curved legs look all right, but they are too hard to make.” Don’t you feel the way my friend did, and get careless in making your furniture. Straight Mission lines look well, but that is no reason why you have to eliminate the curve lines altogether. Mission furniture is composed of straight lines; as some say “simplicity is the keynote,” but simplicity in some cases is stupidity, so use curved lines whenever your better judgment tells you.
